City of LA Housing Workshops

How can the surrounding University of Southern California (USC) neighborhood community members help inform housing strategies in order to make the best use of the $10 million to address housing needs in the USC Study Area?

As part of a development agreement, the City of LA has secured $10 million from USC to support housing needs around the USC community. LA-Más worked with Estolano LeSar Perez Advisors to host three community workshops, sponsored by the City of Los Angeles’ Housing & Community Investment Department to gather feedback to inform a set of recommendations for the city. These three different workshops were hosted in various parts of the community at different times in order to give community members multiple opportunities to participate.

The study area is bounded by Washington Blvd. (North), Main St. (East), Vernon Ave. (South), and Normandie Ave. (West). The goal was to understand the community’s priorities and to help set the City’s vision to create, preserve, and rehabilitate affordable housing.  The housing strategies presented were collectively informed by interviews from leaders of local community organizations and in addition to HCIDLA, ideas gathered will also be shared with Councilmember Gil Cedillo (Council District 1), Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson (Council District 8), Councilmember Curren Price (Council District 9), and the Mayor’s Office.

The boards that were presented at the workshops can be seen here in English and in Español for housing types and in English and Español for housing strategies.

The City will be expending funds in 2017.
