Community Development

We partner with residents and grassroots organizations on tangible community development efforts that promote housing and economic security.

Northeast LA has long been home to working class communities of color, but the region is rapidly changing as longtime residents come into the crosshairs of developers and real estate investors. Recent LA River revitalization efforts, coupled with market forces, have made Northeast LA neighborhoods popular for land acquisition and new development that is not built with the immediate community in mind, contributing to increased displacement pressures.

LA Más believes that development without displacement is possible when it is community-led, builds on the context of the neighborhood's built environment, incorporates local knowledge and culture, and is inclusive of the lived experiences of those most marginalized and vulnerable to displacement (oftentimes working class renters). Our approach starts with deep community engagement and collaboration, so that residents can become self-advocates for equitable housing strategies and have the tools to participate in and shape local development.
