Frogtown Artwalk 2013

How can spatial problem solving and way-finding signage be designed to make the built environment accessible to pedestrians?

The Frogtown Artwalk is a yearly community-organized event that captures the many creative spaces operating out of garages, in resident driveways and neighborhood studios. Along the half-mile stretch, pop-up galleries and installations spring up during the event to celebrate the resident’s artistic contribution to Elysian Valley.

The system focused on the principles of architectural clues, sight lines, signage and maps to provide a cohesive identity to the eclectic event. Graphically design signs provided easily readable destination markers while powdered dye designs across roads and gallery spaces activated the route’s infrastructure.

For the eighth edition of the Frogtown Artwalk, LA-Más decided to conceptually defined the artwalk thru spatial problem solving to make the build environment accessible and designed a wayfinding system to guide visitors through the event.

Clean graphic design provided easily readable destination markers throughout the ninth edition of the event. LA-Más worked Elly Ward to develop the super graphic look inspired by the late Deborah Sussman.
