Frogtown Artwalk 2016

What informal place-making and identifying elements exist in Frogtown and how can this inspire formal wayfinding designs?

For the 10th Annual Frogtown Artwalk, we designed the wayfinding signage for mark all the formal and informal venues in the community. These numbered, cacti-inspired plants light up at night and correspond with the event map. Our design is home grown and inspired by the front yards of the local residents of Frogtown. Wild succulents and cacti are some of the more prominent natural landmarks of the neighborhood and create an informal wayfinding, already present, in the neighborhood.

Through the use of materials like plexi-glass and el wire, these numbers light up at night.  Host venues got to keep these cacti-inspired numbers.  Elysian Valley Arts Collective donated materials for the the wayfinding system and LA-Más donates our team each year. Previous designs have included ephemeral wayfinding concepts and olympics-inspired supergraphics.
