Northeast LA Community Housing Alliance (NELACHA)

A coalition of residents working to create community-stewarded, permanently affordable and stable housing

After exploring the feasibility of LA Más acquiring housing in 2023, we knew that we couldn’t do it alone. We had been in talks with community members and allies about what tangible pathways could prevent displacement in Northeast LA and how we could realize those strategies together. So in December 2023, we launched the Northeast Los Angeles Community Housing Alliance (NELACHA): a coalition of residents and allies working to create community-stewarded, permanently affordable and stable housing.

Together, we pursue a variety of strategies to preserve existing housing, build new housing, and advocate for community-stewarded models:

• Activate Community Resources | We identify property owners willing to rent or sell housing below or off market. We source private funds that can close financing gaps for community acquisitions.

• Build Partnerships | We strengthen our capacity by inviting experts in affordable housing, real estate development, and housing policy to partner with us.

• Access Public Funding | We want to make sure that funding such as the City’s United to House LA (ULA) and the State’s Foreclosure Intervention Housing Preservation Program (FIHPP) are allocated to Northeast LA.
