Northeast LA Solidarity Network
In May, we began hosting a monthly Community Solidarity meeting inviting residents to express neighborhood priorities, share and learn about resources, and take collective action on local programs or advocacy. A group of 10-15 Northeast LA residents have been attending – each coming to the space with different curiosities: learning about what's going on in their neighborhood, finding like-minded people, or building solidarity with their neighbors.

Priorities that our community has named so far include open and natural spaces, affordable and accessible housing, safe and free transit, and community-serving healthcare. A clear value is a connection to the people and places that make Northeast LA neighborhoods unique and the desire to stay despite displacement pressures. Attendees named the various resources they want to see, such as trainings on how to grow food, making housing information more culturally and linguistically accessible, community clinics and services for the unhoused, and transportation infrastructure that isn’t just for newer residents.
In our next gathering this Friday, we will brainstorm ideas for an event that responds to these priorities with resources, while centering joy and celebration. Our intention is not to create something new, but to honor what’s already working – connecting existing grassroots efforts to more working class communities of color throughout Northeast LA. If that sounds like you, we’d love to get to know each other and see how we can work together – send us a message at community@mas.la or join us at our next meeting:
